COMIC VS MOVIE

IRONMAN!

Ironman has always been my favorite marvel character and honestly one of my favorite marvel movies! That being said the origin of Ironman in the comics vs how he is depicted in the movies definitely has some differences. I mean obviously we can’t have an exact replica of tony starks Ironman suit on the movies considering how far movie making has come since Ironman was released in the comics. First of all, Ironman first showed up in the comics in September of 1963 so let us be real 1963 vs 2008? The technology difference can’t even be compared. That being said some of the major differences going from Anthony “Tony” Stark from the comics to the movie released in 2008 is definitely his attitude. Now I am a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr but the in the comics Mr. Stark isn’t nearly as narcissistic as he is in movies. RDJ definitely added a more over confident big shot mentality to the role then he was in the comics.

LOVE INTREST

So in the movie released in 2008 Tony Starks assistant Pepper Pots becomes his love interest played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Now not to say that Ms. Pepper Pots doesn’t like her some Tony Stark there is definitely some feelings involved, but in the movie they have a much bigger love interest then in the comics. The major difference in the comics Pepper marries Happy Hogan and the relationship between her and Tony Stark is more platonic even though they did share a kiss once.

ORIGIN

Tony stark in the comics did get injured and had shrapnel trapped in his chest and yes he was forced to create weapons in the movies the group was called The Ten Rings led by a man named raza, in the comics the man that captured and forced his was named Wong-Chu. Not sure why they changed the villain but hey it is what it is. Now this isn’t in the first Ironman Movie but a huge difference in the origin of Ironman was in the comics Tony Stark did not create the big bad villain Ultron Hank Pym did, in the comics Tony actually confesses to Ultron that his intellect doesn’t match Ultron’s!! Crazy I know to think of that concept is crazy but like I said in the comics Tony is not nearly as much of a big headed narcissist.

SUITS

I mean I could literally show hundreds of pictures that show all the different suits that Tony Stark invented and in the movies you do get a decent glimpse of some of them. Actually in Ironman 3 you get a small idea of how crazy Tony goes with ideas, and creations of suits! But in the comics there is definitely wayyyyyy more. Now the iconic candy apple red and bright yellow is more of a comic aspect in the movies, the yellow is gold and not nearly as bright which let’s be real that’s not a bad thing, yellow would be too bright for the big screen. Tony Stark also developed a lot more options like suits to travel in space and suits like the hulk buster to take down hulk obviously. He also developed suits on a cosmic level to be able to hold his own with villians like thanos, galactus, and ultron.

FINAL THOUGHTS

All in all, the movies are pretty closem, Marvel studios does a pretty good job of matching the creators. However the comics are from a different time so no matter how you look it its bound to change. Now that being said its cool to read the comics and see how the movies adapted new ideas,3 and a new twist to this great Marvel Character. I think for me It’s like reading a history book you get to see where the ideas originated how the story was told in the beginning and now get to see how in this day and age those stories are told. I know I know its fiction no one billionaire is out there fighting crime and saving the world in a metal suit of armor but the concept is amazing. Next I’m going to compare Captain America the First Avenger!!!!
